The successful and long-term care of brilliant tetras, Moenkhausia pittieri, requires a certain amount of sensitivity. In unsuitable water, the animals quickly take care of themselves.
Brilliant tetras are very lively and need space accordingly. Fighting can occur within the species, but other species are not usually bothered. For quiet species, brilliant tetras can become a nuisance, e.g. B. quiet tetras, dwarf cichlids, angelfish and discus.
Brilliant tetras are spirited, especially when feeding.
Keeping brilliant tetras in a species tank of 200 liters or more or keeping only other tetra species is ideal.
Notes on Breeding

If the water values, the food and the aquarium stock are right, brilliant tetras, like many fish species, will spawn all by themselves in the planted community tank.
When a female ready to spawn meets with a male, both disappear into the bushes and spawn.
Dense planting is sufficient. Java moss is also suitable and is more natural.
Whether the offspring get through in the community tank is another matter.
As a rule, the offspring do not make it through or only a few young ones make it through.
If as many young as possible are to be raised, a separate rearing tank is necessary. A tank with a volume of 8 to 10 liters is sufficient.
