The 12 liter Asia pool
This is also a very popular way of stocking a nano tank siamese fighting fish tank. These attractive and colorful fish, known locally as betta «splendens,» are native to Thailand and Cambodia and first appeared in Europe in 1892. Due to their small body size of only five to seven centimetres, the fish also feel at home in small tanks. Despite being a fighting fish, the betta splendens is generally considered peaceful.
Only the males fight each other, which is why only one male fish should be kept in each tank. The tank should have dense vegetation and none with only a slight current, because the betta is often found in stagnant water such as ponds or swamps in its homeland and therefore prefers it quiet. The water in his home should be soft to medium hard with a pH of 5.5 to 7.8 at a temperature of 23-30° Celsius.
It should be noted that the Siamese fighting fish is a carnivore by nature, preferring live food but also accepting frozen food. His fondness for fresh meat does not make him an easy neighbor. Therefore, extreme caution should be exercised in the event of a planned socialization. Large caudal fins, such as those of the guppy, which is very popular with aquarists, excite its fighting spirit. He quickly regards fish that are too small as easy prey. The neighbors must not be too lively either, as this would stress the betta. Various types of catfish and calm schooling fish with small flippers are therefore best suited for socializing. Please note: catfish species are not suitable for a nano aquarium.
Colorful fishing in the nano tank
A colorful and peaceful spectacle of fish enjoying themselves in the nano tank offers a composition of killifish and danios. Both are available in different subspecies, so that the pool makes a colorful impression. Killifish are among the most popular aquarium fish due to their colorful appearance. They come from the savannas and rain forests and move there in the shallow waters of the banks and swamps. There are more than 600 types.
A well-known representative of this genus in the nano basin of ringed pike. Originally from West Africa, it was introduced to Germany in 1965. The males reach a height of up to four centimeters. They impress with their pike-like appearance and their yellow-red glowing tail tips. The danios also offer a large repertoire of different subspecies and colors.
For keeping in a small aquarium, the mosquito danios with a maximum height of 3 cm height and the Guinea fowl rasbora recommended. They go with various other fish species like the dwarf bluefish or the Spark or fire tetras.
Also the dwarf puffer fish is a great neighbor here. They all love dense vegetation on the bottom for hiding and sleeping, but they also need enough space in the tank for swimming. In addition, they are all quite easy to hold and therefore suitable for beginners. However, due to the small size of the aquarium, care should be taken to ensure that not too many fish live in it at once and that the tank is well covered at the top.
The 12 liter aquarium with a difference – the shrimp tank
The dwarf shrimp represent.
These grow up to 3.5 centimeters in size and have a spectacular coloration. In addition, they are extremely peaceful and also clean the inside of the tank, which is particularly beneficial for beginners. Like crabs and crabs, shrimp belong to the decapod family and fascinate with their bizarre physique and colorful appearance. Since her character and appearance fascinated many breeders at the same time, she comes in a wide variety of color combinations. So she acts as Red Fire Shrimp about the striped bumblebee shrimp up to arm shrimp on.
Shrimp are found in both fresh and salt water. The former clearly predominates when kept in the aquarium. The body of the freshwater shrimp is transparent. Like all crustaceans, it has a chitinous exoskeleton and its pincers are rather small. Striking are the antennae that appear especially on her head.
Keeping them is not too much of a challenge, even for the beginner, because most shrimp species have a fairly large tolerance range with regard to the water parameters required. A good supply of oxygen and, depending on the type of shrimp, additional heating are important. The planting should be dense and offer sufficient opportunities for retreat. Small caves are also very popular with the shrimp. As a mixed eater, she needs both animal and vegetable ingredients.
