Elon Musk, one of the most visible tycoons of recent years, has a strange theory about reality, from their perspective we live in a universe that is a mere product of simulation. Therefore, we are unaware of reality and we live in a kind of matrix as predicted by the science fiction behind the Matrix.
But, although Elon Musk wants to claim this theory, the truth is that this questioning has been part of philosophical thought for centuries. Does the mind construct reality or is it after it? An endless debate that seems to go on forever.

From Musk’s perspective “if you assume some rate of improvement, then games will be indistinguishable from reality, or civilization will end. One of those two things will happen,» referring to video games. He adds that, «Therefore, most likely we are in a simulation, because we exist.»
ensures that we live in a simulation designed to fool our senses. And within this system, our consciousness would be just another type of superior intelligence, that can be used. He even ventures to say that the probability of this being true exceeds 50%.

«I think most likely (that) there are many, many simulations. You could also call them reality, or you could call them multiverses.»
To this, the scientist adds the idea that he considers that the energy source that activates the Universe could be a processor of colossal dimensions. Under this premise, the latter would be the only thing outside of the simulation and, therefore, the only indisputable reality.
Illusion as detachment of individual identity
But the theory of simulation is not new, nor does it belong to Elon Musk, but rather it has been brewing in the collective imagination practically since we have been aware. To show this, they are the teachings of Buddhism that deal with an illusion as a detachment of individual identity. This Eastern thought has spread and permeated Western culture. It is enough to read the books of the greatest philosophers in history to realize that the debate on the veracity of reality has been latent throughout history.
And despite the fact that for many years science was based on the false positivism of the scientific method that marginalized everything that was not observable, the latest research is changing this perception. Every time there is more evidence that what we think of as reality could be something very different. Can the mind disturb reality? Scientists aren’t quite sure, and there’s no such thing as a resounding no. Research and scientific experiments have proven that the mind affects physical reality, contrary to what many people think.
Whether we live in a simulated universe or not, there is no clear answer, just mere speculation. The truth is that the human has the great power to transform his own reality for his benefit and this is perhaps the most important premise.
