In both Chinese philosophy and the Tao, there is a principle called energy qialso known as chi. For these traditions, it is about the vital energy that inhabits and underlies all things, even the invisible. In our body, this energy travels through channels called nadis or acupuncture meridians.
When one of the organs does not receive enough energy through the meridians, it deteriorates. Six of the meridians are ying and another six are yang (masculine and feminine principles).
