  • 2 cups of wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cold melted butter
  • 7 tablespoons ice water
  • 12 ounces of white cheese cut into sticks
  • oil for frying

Preparation of the recipe for Colombian cheese fingers

Step 1. Mix

In a large bowl mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until everything is perfectly incorporated. Then add the egg, the butter and the 6 tablespoons of water and stir with a wooden spoon and then start kneading with your hands. If you see that the dough is still very dry, add one more tablespoon of water.

Step 2. Knead

Then on a flat surface continue kneading until the flour is well incorporated and smooth. Once it is ready, you have to make a ball with the dough, put it in a container and cover it with plastic or a cloth to let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Step 3. Flatten

When the dough is ready, roll it out flat on a floured flat surface until it is about 1/4-inch thick, forming a rectangle that measures 10″ x 13″. Then you have to cut the dough with a knife into strips that are 3/4 inch wide. That is to say that you should get between 10 to 12 strips of dough.

Step 4. Wrap

Then flatten each strip with the rolling pin to make it even thinner and stretch to about 18 inches long. Then, wrap each cheese stick with one of the strips, starting at one end and ending at the other. To seal you have to pinch the dough at each end and press the edges so that they are well sealed.

Step 5. Fry

Finally, heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and begin to fry each cheese stick for about 3 to 4 minutes or until you see that they are golden. Remove them from the oil and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess fat, then serve immediately.
