The decline of Zapata's movement

In February 1917, Carranza headed the promulgation of the Political Constitution where the agricultural cast and land restitution to the peasants was legalized. Zapata had become, for the following year, a rebel who continued to «cause problems» to the constitutionalist government.

In 1919, through deception, Zapata was summoned for a meeting that would allegedly bring the addition of federal soldiers (headed by General Jesús Guajardo) to his army. The appointment would be given at the Chinameca farm on April 10 And Zapata arrived with a 10 -men escort. Upon entering the hacienda, the military began the touch of honor with the clarines and at the end of the last note, opened fire against the southern leader, who died from the impact of 20 shotgun bullets in several parts of the body. From that moment, Zapata went from being the revolutionary, to the martyr and hero of national peasant struggles.

After his death, Zapata's body was buried in the Municipal Pantheon of Cuautla to later be transferred to the South Revolution Square, where he currently rests.Casasola Archive, National Photo Library, INAH.
