Contraceptive ring? We tell you what it is and how it works

The contraceptive ring is a planning method based on the release of hormones. In recent years it has become increasingly popular, today we will tell you what it is and how it is used.

How is the contraceptive ring used? You put it in your vagina for three weeks, it releases hormones that prevent ovulation, similar to birth control pills. It is disposable, similar to a thin rubber bracelet, although it is made of polyethylene, one of the most widely used plastics in the world.

After three weeks, remove it and wait for your menstrual period to arrive. Put on a new one during the first five days of your period and repeat the cycle.

To put it on, squeeze it from the sides until it takes an oval shape, insert it with your fingers into your vagina and rotate it until it fits. If you have used tampons or the menstrual cup before, it will be easier for you.

If you are going to use the contraceptive ring remember…

● Always insert it on the same day of the week that you put it on for the first time
● You don’t need to remove it during sexual intercourse
● It does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases so you will have to use a condom.
