The L201 catfish looks beautiful with its dots. He likes to live in small groups with his conspecifics. among them there may be turf warswhich is why the aquarium should have at least as many caves and shelters as there are catfish in the tank. It is better to offer twice as many caves.

The L201 catfish behave peacefully towards other fish species. The catfish feel most comfortable when the substrate consists of sand or fine gravel. There you can look for uneaten food and small creatures in peace. They clean the bottom of the aquarium from algae.

gender differences

The male L201 catfish have strong interopularodontodes (jaw teeth) and a strong spine on the back. Their heads appear larger and stronger than the females’ heads. The females are narrower at the head, but have a wider waist. The genital papilla are also different from each other. It is pointed in males and tubular in females. However, this is difficult for the layman to recognize and can only be distinguished by professionals.

breed

From the age of almost two years, the L201 catfish are sexually mature. However, breeding is not easy and beginners do not always succeed. The eggs are spawned in a clay tube that is only open on one side. A L201 female lays about 30 eggs.

However, the young animals have a small chance of surviving in a large aquarium. Therefore, the breeding attempts should rather take place in a tank specially provided for this purpose and the parent animals should also be removed quickly. Enough caves must then be available for the young animals.

socialization

L201 catfish can be socialized with most fish. Since they are not vegetarians, dwarf shrimp should be avoided. With small and peaceful fish, but also with larger species, the catfish can be kept together without any problems.
