What mollies eat
Mollys will eat just about any food. Because they are actually herbivores, they should definitely be fed plant food as well.
Appropriate flake food is also suitable.
Food with dried algae is z. B. suitable.
Black mollies also eat red, black and white mosquito larvae.

The habitat of the wild forms of all Molly species often also includes bodies of water with brackish water that has a relatively high salt content. The blackfin fish, Poecilia sphenops, from which the Black Mollys were bred, is widespread and lives in a wide variety of water types.
Mollys can therefore also be used to softer water. Black Mollys can z. B. also be kept in water with a carbonate hardness of 4, a total hardness of 5 to 8 dH and a pH of about 6.8.
It is not absolutely necessary to add salt. Because black mollies are usually kept together with other fish species, adding salt should depend on whether the other fish species can tolerate such a salt addition. Neons are z. B. often kept together with Black Mollys, but do not tolerate the addition of salt.
If Black Mollies are kept without other fish species, salt can be added. The exact concentration is not so important. A suitable concentration is e.g. B. a teaspoon, approx. 3 grams, salt to 10 liters of water.

Get Black Mollies frequently Offspring.
In a community tank nature regulates the stocking density standalone.
Only the healthiest and «smartest» juveniles escape the other fish and are not eaten.
In a well-planted aquarium, a few juveniles always come through.
With very dense planting, more young animals can survive than desired.
If young fish are to survive in a targeted manner – get throughit is advisable to put the pregnant female in a spawning box – rearing box like this.
The young fish remain in this box (better still a small aquarium – eg nano aquarium) until they have reached a size of approx. 2cm.

Feeding the young fish
Special powdered food is commercially available as food for young animals. Powdered food is basically finely ground flake food. Finely grated algae are also eaten with pleasure. Fine granulated feed and frozen bosmids are also suitable. Frozen Cyclops, which are slightly larger, are suitable for slightly older hatchlings. Feed for young fish should not be larger than the diameter of the young’s eyes.
Young animals need a lot of food and should therefore be fed frequently. If possible, feed up to six times a day in the first few days. Feeding is required at least once a day. Only as much food should be given as can be eaten in about 15 minutes.
Because the water is more polluted by frequent feeding, the water has to be changed more frequently. About a quarter of the water needs to be changed at least once a week. If necessary, more often and more. Otherwise, too much uneaten food will cause the water to become cloudy, which young fish are sensitive to.
When can the young be placed together with adult mollies?
Black Mollys will eat their own young. Only when the young are so big that they can no longer be put in the mouth of the adult…
